Central Nervous System Infections (Abscesses) Management
CNS infections are said to be 10-40% dangerous in many of the cases. Some may even experience certain permanent damages. Some may even result in problems such as partial paralysis, seizures and speech problems. Best care and treatment is required to cope with CNS infection.
The treatment of CNS infections is done in following two stages:
- In the first stage, the potential bacteria that amass and develop infections is controlled with medicines
- In the second stage, the infected site is drained through surgery
If there are numerous sites of infection or the infection is located in an inaccessible area, surgery may not be preferred. Such cases require more care. Although some can be cured with antibiotics alone, but still wherever required, surgery is considered good for many reasons like:
- Fast relief of the pressure of the brain or spinal cord
- Identification of bacterial infections through infected material
